Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a skills-driven approach designed to help people understand and manage emotions effectively, reduce distress, and improve communication and relationships.
DBT is an evidence-based and effective treatment that has been adapted for many clinical issues, including depression and trauma, but also conflicts in interpersonal dynamics and self-destructive behaviours. It includes four key areas: mindfulness (to help you become more aware of thoughts, feelings, emotions, and sensations in the present moment without judgment), emotion regulation (focusing on helping you identify, understand, and manage emotions in effective ways), distress tolerance (learning how to tolerate and cope with distress without resorting to harmful behaviours), and interpersonal effectiveness (learning how to assert needs and maintain boundaries in a way that strengthens relationships).
DBT is highly engaging. It provides a balance of support and challenge, creating a safe space for clients to explore their difficulties and develop the skills necessary for building a fulfilling life.
